This video documents the effort of former residents of the Woodlands School to be heard by government officials and new owners of the Woodlands site. It is a sunny day in September 2004. The Onni Group [developers and new owners of the 63 acre woodlands site] have invited representatives of the British Columbia provincial government and the New Westminster city council to a ceremonial tree planting and garden party to mark the beginning of the first phase in the transformation the Woodlands site into Victoria Hill an exclusive master-planned residential community. A group of former residents of the Woodlands School for the mentally handicapped attend the public gathering in
order to protest a lack of progress with their ongoing class action suit which they are bringing against the British
Columbia government for having suffered physical, mental, and sexual abuse at Woodlands from 1950 to the school'
s closure in the mid 1980s.
